After a six-month search for a convertible it ended on Feb 23, 2003. I found this car advertised in Hemmings - one line add - "1970 Convertible Red/Red nice car". The car was located in Cupertino Calif. After having a Team Chevelle member look at it for me and having some pictures of the car from the owner I decided to buy the car. On March 8th, 2003 the car made its long journey via Horseless Carriage to the east coast.
Upon inspection of the car I was amazed how rust free it was, the underside appeared as if it were only 2 years old with not one spot of rust. The floors, trunk, quarters, doors and fenders are all and rust free. I further learned by oil change stickers on the door that the car had 312,000 miles on it. I could hardly believe it, the condition for a car with this mileage is incredible. The rear had been changed at one point, I have confirmed the 307 is original and matching numbers to the vin, the TH350 was as well original, obviously rebuilt at one time.
In any case future plans include a full restoration with a 454 a TH400 trans and a 12 bolt posi and YES an SS replica. I hope to begin the process this fall so stay tuned for photos' as I disassemble and restore it.
